NUH In the Community

Please stay in touch as we make our 2008 farmers’ market plans. Nashville Urban Harvest is devoting the majority of its energies this coming season on intensive growing at our volunteer-run community farm site and running our CSA for families in the Nations neighborhood. Please stay informed as we grow and work to involve urban residents in accessing, producing and sustaining clean, local food.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Public Square Farmer’s Market in 2007!It was a blast and we hope to see you at future markets promoting local growers!

Public Square Farmers’ Market Closes for remainder of season due to heat and drought

August is always a little rough on Tennessee farmers. But this year’s heat wave and record drought is forcing the closure of the Public Square Farmers’ Market in downtown Nashville.

Heat and lack of water has resulted in low yields and uncertainty of fall crops. The market, which took place on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., also saw a dramatic decrease in shoppers as summer temperatures soared.

Who?
The BEST in local farm fresh products, including organic produce and flowers, free range eggs, grass fed meats, fresh artisan breads, organic naturally dyed clothing, handmade soaps and candles, and more!

Why?
The goal of the market is to provide a forum from which local growers, food processors, and crafters can offer their products to the public in the Metropolitan Nashville region. Additionally we seek to educate the public about agricultural products and concerns facing Middle Tennessee growers.
