What is a CSA?

CSA is short for Community Supported Agriculture. It is a system that links local growers with local communities. Individuals in a town or neighborhood, like Nashville, buy a share of the vegetables and other goodies that will be grown over the season, starting in late May for middle Tennessee region.

Why should I buy into Nashville Urban Harvest’s CSA? I can just go to the grocery store!

First, we use sustainable agriculture practices—no pesticides and no overfarming means better health for you and your family. Second, the cost of your share supports our work directly, covering the cost of seed, salary, and farm equipment. Most importantly, your food is local and fresh. We pick it on Friday and Saturday and you pick it up on Saturday!

What comes in my share?

Each week your share will have enough veggies for 3-4 people for the week. A typical box has a variety—a salad mix, spinach, radishes, greens and potatoes in early summer; tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, zucchini, potatoes, peppers and carrots in mid-summer; and kale, arugula, salad mix, butternut squash, turnips, and herbs in the fall.

What is the cost?

Our 10 week summer CSA begins when the crops are ready for harvest, normally at the end of May or early June, and is $255. We may also offer a fall CSA—look for information as we enjoy the summer!

There are also shares available for families with a low-income. Email kate@nashvilleurbanharvest.org for more information.
